The richness of a performer’s spirit is difficult to fully capture; musicians in the act of playing grow transfixed with their work and become larger than life. For my concentration, I chose to focus on a small but fascinating piece of any performance: the musicians’ hands. Though taken out of context, the concrete details of these paintings - the hands' tension, as well as formal elements like...

Throughout my life, my innermost thoughts have both empowered and paralyzed me, and I often wonder how ideas would appear if they adopted a tangible form. My concentration explores portraiture, combined with visual representations of ideas and emotions as auras emerging from each person. While processing private thoughts may seem like a very individual endeavor, it is an integral part of the human e...

l have had a passion for architecture since my freshman year. I am planning on attending architecture school next fall, so I was fascinated by the idea of combining my passion for architecture with my AP Art concentration. For my AP portfolio I have created a series of drawings and paintings that explore architectural concepts and principles, and celebrate my passion for the subject. I began my AP concent...

In my concentration. I wanted to explore how objects are forgotten over time. Some objects become antiques as they age, but what happens to objects that simply become old? My portfolio explores the divide between creation and decay. In alternating between pastels and Monochromes, I can demonstrate the change from a colorful, emotional creation to an apathetic degeneration. All of my concentration pieces ...

Ever since I was little, I’ve always been amazed by the beauty of Georgia O'Keeffe's flower paintings. Her ability to transform something as mundane as a rose or a poppy into something extraordinary was the central inspiration behind my concentration. I decided to use oil pastels as my medium because of their rich and saturated hue, and the ease with which they can be blended. I decided ea...

I’ve always been very interested in the unspoken bond created between two people while exchanging a handshake. The intensity captured when two individuals lock hands is what inspired me to examine hands under different levels of stress and action. By enlarging my subjects and desaturating their hands of all color, I was able to explore the beauty and expressive potential of the human hand. My concen...

When I was growing up, I was conditioned to believe that being feminine or "girly" was a weakness rather than a strength. But, as I've begun to grow into who I am as a woman, I've come to understand that femininity has a unique and incredible power of its own that deserves recognition. My concentration works to exhibit the grade and vigor of the female figure — in large and small scales — w...
