The President of the United States is indisputably a very busy man. That is why it is even more unique that he recently took time out of his busy schedule and decided to come to Westchester to attend fundraisers for the Democratic National Committee.  President Obama unfortunately came on Labor Day Weekend, one of the busiest weekends of the year, this past month.

Preparing for Mr. Obama’s visit was no easy task for those who organized the trip. Carol Wolf, wife of Robert Wolf, who is one of Obama’s largest financial backers on Wall Street, hosted Obama for the fundraiser in Purchase, NY.

“There was a lot of preparation the week before the event, the secret service came to our house and they all worked together to make sure it was a great event, but also a very safe event,” said Wolf, “The secret service was very involved in the preparation, they went through our house and our property, and talked to our neighbor’s to make sure they could secure the whole property and so there would be no risk when the president was at our home.”

Obama arrived at the Wolf household at 4:00 pm for the Democratic National Committee Fundraiser.  Although he could only stay for an hour and a half, he managed to get a lot done in his time there.

“He was very talkative and he spoke with each family, he was also able to listen to some of the questions that they had while being very open to them. At the end he gave a very serious speech, but when he was meeting everyone he was social and gracious,” Wolf said.

Obama then went onto another fundraiser in New Rochelle, also for the DNC.  The amount of traveling caused roads in the surrounding areas to be closed, inconveniencing many. Many Hackley School students were affected by his arrival, including Sophomore Amanda Stern. Unaware of his arrival, Amanda said, “I was stuck at my friends house for five hours and I couldn’t get home; it caused a severe inconvenience to my day.”

Another Hackley student, Jessie Paridis, was lucky enough to meet Obama when he came to Purchase.

“You only talked to him for probably about 30 seconds, took a photo and then you were done, but it felt like you were talking to him for probably like an hour because he made it seem like he’d known you forever,” Jessie said.

Some may think that the President is a very serious man, but she got a very different impression. “He turned out to be such a nice guy, and very down to earth, and I felt very comfortable with him.”

Even though Obama might of caused an inconvenience to people trying to get places on Labor day weekend, the response of many who attended the fundraisers was largely positive.
