Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer and Girls’ Cross Country Crowned NYSAIS Champions
It was a day of victory for Hackley’s sports teams as Field Hockey, Girls’ Soccer and Girls’ Cross Country won their respective NYSAIS championships.
Starting at Van Cortlandt Park this morning, the Girls’ Cross Country team finished 42 points ahead of second place Convent of the Sacred Heart. Senior Julia Stevenson won the race, and all of the Varsity girls finished in the top third of the race. This is the Girls’ team’s third consecutive NYSAIS championship. The Boys’ team had a strong showing as well, placing 9th out of 18 teams.
Later in the day, Varsity Field Hockey competed against Rye Country Day at Manhattanville College for the NYSAIS Championship. Senior Arielle Stern scored the winning goal in a Penalty Shootout after the second overtime period. This is the team’s first NYSAIS championship since 2003.
At 5:30 p.m. Girls’ Varsity Soccer won their first NYSAIS championship since 2008, defeating Dalton 1-0 in overtime at Manhattanville College. Senior Sammy Mueller scored the winning goal, completing the “hat trick” for Hackley athletics this season.
