This year Hackley’s Angling Club was one of the most popular clubs at this year’s club fair. Led by seniors Conor Ranawat, Hugh Walsh, and Baraka Middleton; the three hope to get students outside and fishing through club-run trips. For both experienced and new anglers, the club strives to interact with the outdoors in a fun and refreshing way.
“I’ve loved to go fishing since I was little, and it’s been one of my favorite hobbies to this day. I wanted to run this club in order to share one of my passions with the rest of the Hackley community,” Conor Ranawat said.
This year the club plans on taking trips to various parts of New York and Connecticut in order to go freshwater fishing. Last year the club traveled to Brulls Bridge in Kent, Connecticut, and had a great time. The club hopes to continue these trips at a more frequent rate.
“I’m super excited for this club, and just to go fishing with other people who love angling. I think the trips are going to be a really fun time and an overall good experience,” Hugh Walsh said.
With the leaders having loads of experience, one of their main goals is to help beginners learn the process. Teaching them various techniques, the best type of bait, and about the different hooks and rods w. While learning these methods do not guarantee catching a fish, it increases the likelihood and also is important for safety reasons. The leaders hope to provide a solid foundation for the members.
“One thing I’m excited about is helping new anglers learn to fish. I want to share my experience and knowledge with our members,” Hugh said.
Open for all Upper School students to join, The Angling Club hopes to gain more members regardless of experience and go on frequent trips.
