Is it a publicity stunt or true love? This question has been prominent in the minds of the fan bases of singer Taylor Swift and football player Travis Kelce.
The new relationship between these two celebrities has sparked some controversy in the eyes of society. Taylor Swift’s fan base, mainly referred to as Swifties, is in strong support of Travis Kelce as they believe he has the potential to be her “End Game”. Kelce is also Taylor Swift’s 13th boyfriend which Swifties love, as that is Taylor Swift’s lucky number.
“He is much better than ratty Healy”, said Modern Language Teacher Mr. Liu when asked about his thoughts on Travis Kelce in comparison to her previous relationship with Matty Healy. “Taylor’s cat, Olivia Benson, net worth is nearly 100 million. More than twice as much as Travis Kelce’s 40 million,” he said.
On the other hand, football fans are not the biggest supporters of the new relationship. They believe that Travis Kelce is the one who made Taylor Swift relevant, and they disapprove of how Taylor Swift has become a big aspect of his games and performances. When put to numbers, however, Travis Kelce has 34 catches, 432 yards, and two touchdowns in the games when Taylor Swift has been in attendance. He tends to perform better when Taylor is in attendance, sitting in the lounge with his mom, Donna Kelce.
When the Seattle Seahawks played the New York Giants at Metlife Stadium, fans reacted to advertisements for Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, Taylor Swift’s new documentary on her concert, by booing and laughing.
“Travis Kelce is one of the best players of all time and Taylor Swift is just some blonde singer,” said junior Taylor Safriet, football player and Kansas City Chiefs fan.
Once Taylor changed the lyrics of Grammy-nominated song “Karma” to “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs / Coming straight home to me”, their relationship was confirmed.
“The football star and the singer everyone loves makes for an iconic duo”, sophomore Leila Dillow said. “The eyes tell it all”, she adds.
