If you were wondering who the new face in the infirmary and on the Girls Varsity Soccer sideline is, that is Elsa Mujic, a new addition to the hilltop this year.

Ms. Mujic has experience as a teaching assistant and also as a medical assistant in a primary care office for 2.5 years. She feels comfortable in her new position, contributing to the warm atmosphere in the infirmary.

“I didn’t know much about Hackley, because I’m from across the bridge, and we don’t know much about the schools over here. When I saw Hackley had an opening, I looked it up and thought this school is beautiful. And I was like, I would love to work there,” Ms. Mujic said.

Ms. Mujic has since come to love not only the campus, but something that is central to our name and legacy as a school: the people.

“When I applied, I met Shannon during my interview, which was amazing. She really made me want to come here because I saw how amazing it was to work here,” Ms. Mujic said.

The dynamic in the infirmary between Nurse Shannon and Ms. Mujic seems to be working very well, and anyone could see that she has become a great assistant and a friendly face.

“Her job entails being my assistant, so processing forms that are coming in and following up with parents. I’m the nurse, but she’s the medical assistant, so she can help with injuries, but I am still the primary point person for that,” said Nurse Shannon.

Ms. Mujic was hired to help out with forms, but also to greet visitors to the infirmary, so her friendly nature was a main factor for Shannon in hiring her.

“I hired her because she has a wonderful disposition: friendly, warm, positive, and I thought she would be a great addition to the infirmary. And I have loved working with her so far,” said Shannon.

Much of the job of an infirmary assistant is to welcome kids and contribute to the comfort of the students when visiting the nurse. Ms. Mujic has tried to bring the same energy and enthusiasm to the girls soccer team.

“First, I didn’t come in with the idea of coaching, just because I didn’t know that would be an option, but when it was presented to me, I was like, of course, I would love to do this! When they offered it, I was like this is perfect because I would love the opportunity to get back into soccer. I’ve loved it so far, the girls are great,” Mujic said.

Ms. Mujic has worked on putting her knowledge from playing at a high school and collegiate level into coaching, assisting coaches Natalie Hopp and Cassandra Sekkas with various drills throughout the season so far.

“Coach Elsa has been such a great addition to the team! She provides humor, positivity, and always finds a way to lighten the mood!” senior captain Zion Bennett said.
