A Historic Win: Wrestlers’ Take on Horace Mann Win

Hackley’s win in wrestling against Horace Mann was the first since 1998. Obviously emotions were running high, so we asked a few wrestlers what their feelings were about the historic win:

“Our first win since 1998 against Horace Mann could not have been any better than it was.” – Junior Stephen Zak

“You had to be there to witness how great it actually was.” – Senior Rodrigo Mejias

“It was fantastic because I’ve been on the team for five years and we have never beaten them until this year so it just feels so good knowing I ended off my high school wresting career with a great win. Some of the greatest wrestlers ever at Hackley including Justin Seim never had the opportunity to beat them, but knowing that I had the opportunity to do so is really awesome.” – Senior Daniel Shaw

“It was freaking amazing. I wish I could further express myself, but I’m pretty sure you can’t put half the words I’m about to say into the Dial. It’s what should have happened, and Elias is a god.” – Senior Xavier Carmona

“It was almost unreal. I stood up and I yelled at the top of my lungs to express how I felt once I pinned that kid. The best feeling ever was when I saw the whole audience screaming at what I had just accomplished and I didn’t know what to do so I just started pacing around the mat. It was a really great feeling and it reminded me about why I love wresting so much.” – Junior Elias Germanakos (Elias’s pin won the match for Hackley.)
