Students pack the bleachers as Hackley dominates at Winter Sting

Wrestling always packs the room every Winter Sting. The bleachers held a mix of students, parents, and faculty, all bringing energy as they watched Wrestling dominate White Plains. Win after win, by captains and newer wrestlers alike, led to a final score of 76-6.

Wrestling Captain Senior John Pierre Ngbokoli holds his hand high as he caps off a win on his final winter sting. JP is a three-sport varsity athlete who has not only grown into a great athlete but also a great leader, serving as captain of the football team, too. He looks to lead the team forward into one last NYSAIS tournament on Saturday, February 7th.

Senior Owen Lee participated in an intense match against White Plains, securing a promising victory. He has been a valuable member of the team, wrestling since his sophomore year. His loyalty to his teammates and dedication to the sport have helped the wrestling program flourish over the past three years.

After an exciting match resulting in a riveting victory, senior Wyatt Belleville turned to the crowd to cheer. Hyping up the stands, the booming applause from the wrestling room could be heard all the way from the top of the Johnson Center.

Senior Rohan Krishna played the #3 match for Boys’ Varsity Squash against Poly Prep. He won three straight games with ease and started trying out behind-the-back and through-the-leg shots to impress the crowd. The boys won by a commanding score of 7-0 and look to carry this momentum forward to NYSAIS and Nationals.

Senior Micah Jones fights for the tip-off at the start of the Boys’ Varsity Basketball game. The boys played Riverdale in a close matchup that ended in a 58-51 loss. It was close throughout, but Riverdale pulled away in the final few minutes.

Eighth grader Sanaya T. had a fast break resulting in a layup during the Girls Varsity Basketball game versus Riverdale. Sanaya showed extreme speed and agility throughout the game, helping the team achieve their well-earned victory. She has proven to be an integral member of the team, starting on the lineup as an eighth-grader.

Senior captain Gabriella Petriello shoots a layup, dodging the many Riverdale opponents guarding her. Her shooting ability shone through during this matchup, helping Hackley secure a 45-20 win over Riverdale.
