This year chapel talks will encourage the participation of upperclassmen students, in order to form an intimate bond between the upperclassmen and lowerclassmen.
In the past, chapel homerooms have been used for teachers and students to relay important information to other members of the community. Now, in addition to the normal informative Chapel Homerooms, upperclassman will be given the opportunity to make speeches in which they provide advice, and share their experiences with the lowerclassmen.
Last year, current senior Katie Mykrantz, opened up the series of chapel talks by speaking to the freshmen class about her challenges in pursuing acting. “It was definitely scary going up there and making a speech to all those kids,” said Katie, “but I feel like in the end, I provided them with helpful advice that they can apply to their own issues.”
Upper School Director, Andy King expressed his hope that many Seniors will participate in this opportunity to speak to the lowerclassmen.
Mr. King recognizes how insightful seniors’ advice can be and commented, “The ninth graders are just as likely to take the advice of an upperclassmen as they are from their teachers and parents”.
