Hackley Loses Physical Game Against Rival Poly Prep

On Wednesday, October 23, Hackley hosted Poly Prep. It was a test for both teams, as it rained on and off for the first half making a cold day even colder. But the teams played through the weather, and fought a very physical battle against Poly, with Poly coming out victorious 1-0. Poly scored a first half goal off a corner kick, and that would prove to be all they needed. Hackley had multiple chances throughout the game, but was unable to capitalize off of some good chances. Throughout the game the refs let the teams play physical, calling a lot of penalties but only issuing one yellow card to Poly. Hackley had one last chance as time wound down in the second half, but Doug Alpuche’s long volley was tipped away by the Poly goalie. It was a tough loss and a tough way to go into the NYSAIS tournament, but the game ended an overall successful season.
