On February 14, 2015, junior Julia Stevenson will compete in the New Balance Mile at the most historic indoor track and field meet in the world: the New York Road Runners Millrose Games. Hosted at the Armory’s New Balance Track and Field Center in Washington Heights, NYC, the 108th annual Games will draw in the world’s foremost high school, collegiate, and professional athletes, including the likes of Olympians Galen Rupp (London 10k Silver Medalist), Ashton Eaton (London Decathlon Gold Medalist; Decathlon, Heptathlon World Record Holder), and Jenn Suhr (London Pole Vault Gold Medalist, Indoor Pole Vault World Record Holder). Julia received an at-large bid from the NYRR committee to race in the girls’ high school event based on her 5:04.86 winning mile performance at the Molloy Stanner Games on January 17, 2015; this time now stands as the new Hackley School indoor record, having shattered the previous mark of 5:10 set back in 1986. Julia will be the first runner in Hackley’s history to participate in this prestigious event, and is one of only 11 girls from all public and private schools on the East Coast to make the cut. “I’m just looking to stay with the pack, and hopefully run a PR (personal record)!” Julia said.

Congratulations Julia, and best of luck!!

Update 2/18/15: Julia placed 7th overall, lowering her PR and the school record to a 5:02.10.
