This book, by Khaled Rosseni, takes you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Amir, a misguided Pashtun boy, and Hassan, Amir’s Hazara servant, spend their days kite fighting in the peaceful city of Kabul. That is until terror strikes the city and everything changes for these two and their families. After heartbreak and a great deal of sadness, Amir makes his way to America and tries to start a new and improved life for himself.

 

The Maze Runner:

A captivating read, James Dashner immerses the reader the main character’s terrifying experience of suddenly waking up in an arena called the Glade that’s surrounded by amorphous monsters called Grievers. A sudden twist arises when a girl, Teresa, enters the arena for the first time with a note that reads, “She’s the last one. Ever.” This marks only the beginning of many drastic changes in the Glade that the characters must take advantage of in an attempt to escape.

 

Why Not Me?:

Mindy Kaling, a prominent actress, comedian, and writer tells her riotous and zany stories about her relationships and friendships, both disastrous and victorious. Sure to entertain any reader, Kaling displays no filter to the inexorable facts of life. The tone, both powerful and humorous will have you relentlessly turning the page no matter how important that English paper is to your future.

 

The Perks of Being A Wallflower:

This book is centered around a socially awkward teen, Charlie, who watches life from the sidelines, until two captivating peers, Sam and Patrick, become his mentors. He then can discover the joys that friendship has to offer. Sam’s free-spirited nature combined with Patrick’s outgoingness helps Charlie to find his place in the high school community. All the while Charlie battles his inner sadness and psychological state about his new friends leaving for college and childhood trauma.
