Poetry Out Loud captivates audience with outstanding performances

Hackley students filled the Chapel on December 9 to listen to their peers recite poems as part of Poetry Out Loud, a national recitation contest where contestants are judged in articulation, presence and performance. In total, 11 students participated: freshmen Gabrielle Caramanica, Alex Evangelidis,Kathryn Fernholz, Alex Garcia, Kireeti Josyula, Tyler LaRoche, Amanda Mooney, Sydney Stoller, and Madeline Zukerman, sophomore Mirabel Mallett, and juniors Tyler LaRoche, Delia Tager and Hanna Mark. Each contestant was required to prepare and recite two poems. After two tense rounds of competition, Delia won first place, while Kathryn and Kireeti won second and third place respectively. Delia and Kathryn will represent Hackley in the regional competition of Poetry Out Loud at SUNY Purchase on Monday, February 6 at 6 p.m.
