Filled with treachery, murder and blood, “Electra” is a perfect Halloween story. Nine students, under the direction of Mr. Teacher, with help from stage manager Paola Garcia, will bring Sophocles’ Greek tragedy to life in the PAC this Thursday 11/1, at 4:30 p.m.. The sirens’ call of a singing chorus, epic drama, amazing effects, and an exciting plot, will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

“Electra” takes place in Mycenae, many years after the brutal murder of King Agamemnon by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover and his ambitious cousin Aegisthus, after Agamemnon arrived home from the Trojan War with another woman. The one person who might take the throne, Agamemnon’s only son, Orestes, is sent away. Agamemnon’s daughter, Electra, holds great contempt for her mother, the Queen, due to her treachery. Electra awaits the day when Orestes comes back and takes the throne. When confronted with news of his death, Electra decides to kill her mother herself, until she finds out Orestes is still alive. The tale continues from this point with woes and sorrows of an agonized Electra.

Starring the amazing actors, Madeline Zuckerman (‘20), as Electra, and Michel Jean or MJ(‘19), as Orestes, a preview of the play will show this Thursday at 4:30 p.m.. “Electra” premieres 7:00 Friday 11/2, and other showings include Saturday, 11/3, Thursday, 11/8, and Friday, 11/9, all at 7:00 p.m.. Keep an eye out for posters around the school, drawn by McKenzie Jones (‘21), advertising the play.
