Prom: Hackley’s annual event for juniors and seniors to gather, and reminisce about the school year, look forward to the summer, and, most importantly, dress in glamorous attire ready to dance the night away.
Music at any gathering can determine how the night will play out, and at this year’s prom, the night is in the hands of sophomore Cole Herlitz-Ferguson.
Prom committee member senior Gabby Urken explained that choosing Cole as the DJ was an obvious choice. “We decided to go with Cole as the prom DJ because he contacted prom advisor Katy Bowers early in the year, and he is extremely professional,” she added. “We thought it would be really nice to support somebody inside the school.”
Cole has always been interested in music and has been a DJ for three years. “In elementary school and middle school I played the saxophone in the school band” said Cole. “Although I enjoyed this, it was not the right path for me. That was when I switched over to mixing, editing, and producing my own music along with my friend and partner Thomas Andersen.”
Thomas, a student at Mameroneck High School, and Cole have a company called TJC Entertainment. They have done many jobs including Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Sweet Sixteens, Graduation Parties, High School Dances, Proms and everything in between.
Their variety of jobs and experience will come into play to add to students’ enjoyment at Prom.
“The biggest event I have ever been a DJ at would have to be the last two years at Mamaroneck High School’s all grade dances,” said Cole. He estimated that there was a crowd of 600 to 700 students.
Cole has over 25,000 songs to choose from in his library including all artists and genres and is open to requests when it comes to songs.
Cole is optimistic and excited for prom and promises an end result that all Hackley students will be pleased with. “We are going to make this the best and most memorable prom Hackley has ever had” Cole said. “We are bringing in our best equipment and staff. We also plan to make an ‘After Movie’ so that the prom can be relieved again and again,” he added.
