Senior Steve Wahrhaftig casts his vote in the mock presidential election.

The Hilltop was alive with activity as Upper School students cast their votes in Hackley’s mock presidential election. Hosted by the Progressive Action League and Conservatives Club, 80% of Upper School students turned out to the polling station in the Lindsay Room. History teachers Vladimir Klimenko, Steve Fitzpatrick and Andy King supervised polling throughout the day. In addition to some seniors who had the chance to vote in the “real” election, the student body was very enthusiastic at the opportunity to vote in the mock election. “I actually feel like here at Hackley my vote is a lot more important than it is in the world at large,” said junior Ben Susswein. Similarly, freshman Annabel Ives commented on the importance of the mock election’s voter turnout. “I think it is important for young students to take part in this mock election because even though they are not old enough to technically vote, they should still understand the candidates and the election, since it may end up to be a huge part of history,” she said. The ballots were counted after school, and the results can be seen below. Later in the evening, the Government and Politics Class is currently watching the election results in the Media Room.
