Community Council Update: Inside the Work of Our Hilltop Representatives

Countdown Until Snowball 2024!!!
Snow Time!!

This year the Community Council has had a lot of success with candy grams and parking raffles to raise the funds to organize our event of the year: Snowball. By a vote from the upper school, this year’s theme will be Winter Wonderland. “We will be organizing the decorations, food, and music,” said Hailey Won, Junior community council representative.
Council is hoping for Snowball to provide a fun night for the Upper School before the stress of exam season comes around.
Earlier this school year, Council saw an enormous success with their planning for the Fall Sting.
“We organized decorations, activities, and the run-up for this sting this year which turned out to be a huge success and a great activity to boost the school spirit,” said Hailey. During the last few years, the run-up has become a tradition for every Sting to help increase school spirit and get the crowd excited. Seniors riling the student body up and leading the pack also gives the senior class an opportunity to lead the school during their last year on the Hilltop.

Community council representatives created a snowball promotion video to help students get excited for snowball. This video was filmed during one of council’s weekly meetings. Pictured here is sophomore representative Ben Iaderosa, junior representative Meredith Lee, and senior representative Mac Broaddus.

This year, community council set extra attention on the Winter Sting as it is one of the least attended events. Through announcements, instagram posts, and an organized black out theme, council was able to make this years Winter Sting a huge success.

Every Monday evening Council meets to kick off the week with planning for events, organizing upcoming activities, and catching up with one another to stay on the same page.
“Our meetings consist of an agenda of points we need to address from our president EJ and then group discussion,” said Hailey.
After every grade and all school matters are addressed, senior EJ Regalado dismisses grade-level representatives into grade-level meetings.
“We work on our grade level events and brainstorm and at around 7:55pm we come back and share with the entire council what our grade is working on,” said Hailey.
Then at 8 pm, Senior Mac Broaddus wraps the meeting up with a unified clap after a 3, 2, 1 countdown. This clap tradition has been a longstanding one and helps us end the meeting as a team.

The Community Council could not share any sneak peeks or events they are working on for confidentiality but right now the council is looking to give other clubs and school-wide events a resourceful platform with their student council resources. They are also always planning for parking raffles and candy grams and will be advertising these events in the grille room soon.
