Whether you can sing or like to recite poetry, Hackley’s beloved Winter Coffee House is a place for all students to showcase their amazing talents. This past Friday, January 22nd, Hackley experienced a winter Coffee House vastly different than last year’s, having taken place via Zoom instead of on stage. Hosted by witty Senior Sarah Shapiro, many students recorded videos of their performances which were then played back to viewers.

Some highlights of the night include (but are not limited to): Freshman Sophia Kliatchko singing Home by Cavetown, The Jazz Combo performing Take the A Train by Duke Ellington, Freshman David Linnett playing Sweet Child of Mine by Guns and Roses on the guitar, and Dial’s very own Senior Sophie Thomas reciting an original poem titled Beauty In the Time of Corona.

Instead of typical applause, students shared their support for friends through the chat, which was blowing up throughout the night. While this isn’t the Coffee House that the Hackley community is used to, Sophomore Ella Sonnenburg said, “I was finally able to go this year because it was online.” If you were in the same position and were unable to attend previously, Coffee House is more accessible now than ever and it is highly recommended by all those who attend.
