Why would you be a good candidate for this position?

I believe that I have many qualities that would make me a good candidate for school president. Primarily, I am passionate and dedicated to anything I set my mind to. I am always striving making the Hackley community the best it can be in any way that I can. I am very positive, approachable, and work well with others in groups. In addition, I encourage suggestions from others, and always appreciate the thought of an idea and consider whatever is brought to my attention. I am prepared to work my hardest as president to get what is asked of me completed and to go over and beyond the expectations of others.

Secondly, I have experience in leadership roles at Hackley in my positions of Junior President and co-leader of the PS81 service group. In these roles, I have picked up organizational and communicative skills as well as learned the ropes of council and how to execute large school-wide events. I know what will be expected of me as the president from attending council meetings as well as the events held by council, and I am more than willing to step into that role and am prepared to do so with my background and skillset as a leader. Every Tuesday Community Council meeting is something that I look forward to and I really value the time I’ve had as president this year. I would love to be given the opportunity to rejoin council and lead the school to another great school year in 2016-2017.

What have you done for the Hackley Community?

As a leader of the PS81 service group, I have helped plan and lead numerous events in the Hackley community. I helped organize monthly trips to PS81 to interact with the students there and foster their love of school as well as organize and execute our extremely successful Dodgeball Tournament, which ultimately raised over $3,000 for the students at PS81. In addition, I helped lead the student specific holiday toy drive for two years, which was a great success and meant a great deal to the students at PS81 who could not afford gifts for the holidays.

As Junior President, I have also contributed greatly to each of the events we’ve held on community council. On the decorating committee for Snowball this year, I helped plan out what we could do for decorations within our budget and went out to Party City to get the supplies we needed. I always offer to send out emails whenever we need to, and help set up the events we hold as well as “man” the table for council at tailgates. I try to bring spirit to athletic events and attend as many as possible, as well as attend the productions at Hackley, from Acting 2 lunch performances to the plays. (The Katrina Project was fantastic!) I have been leading the planning for the Color Run and am working to get it together by the end of May – I researched what types of paint we could use, figured out the logistics of location and timing, and even made a PowerPoint and presented to the rest of Council as to why I think this could be a successful event. Furthermore, I am helping to organize our Spring Carnival/Woodstock event which will be happening at the end of May as well.

What are your goals if elected?

If elected, I plan to increase the spirit in our community, starting with not only athletic and theatrical events, but especially for the Council-run events. I am currently helping to plan the spring carnival, color run, and Field Day/Olympics, and I know that these events would all be 10 times as fun if we had more excitement and for them and more spirit during these events. I would accomplish this goal by using more video promotions, posters, and more announcements in Chapels, Lindsay Rooms, and homerooms. I also want to encourage more feedback and input on events from the entire student body, which I could accomplish through more online polling and discussion with the student body about the things being planned in Council.

Why would you be a good candidate for this position?

I would be a good candidate for this position because I’ve been at this school since kindergarten, and to top that I’ve been on this campus since I was born. I know the ins and outs of this entire school and know what works well with what. I’m also an outgoing person who’s not afraid to make bold yet smart decisions. I’ve been involved with Hackley’s extracurriculars since a young age as well; I attend almost every sporting event and most of the plays. I also view myself as a natural leader who is not willing to accept failure. I would like to unify our school more and make a less stressful atmosphere. Get more students to sporting events each season and more people to plays and art shows, because I feel that at times our school lacks school spirit and even though we are getting better, I think we can take it up a notch.

What have you done for the Hackley Community?

I’ve been a member of 2 varsity sports since sophomore year and JV Basketball for 2 years. I bring as much spirit to games and plays as possible, while also getting others to go. This is without having any experience on Council, so I am not told to do this; I do it at free will.

What are your goals if elected?

A few of my goals if I were to be elected is to increase school spirit, make Hackley a less stressful environment and give the students more say.

Why would you be a good candidate for this position?

I have experience being a member of Community Council and know what is required to serve as President of the School. I volunteered for many tasks when I was grade president during my sophomore year and will continue to do so. I am a big believer in school spirit. During the previous seasons, I was an active participant in the crowd, cheering on my peers while simultaneously distracting the other teams. I am approachable and open minded, making it easy for people who have ideas/requests to discuss with me about. I am enthusiastic about doing whatever I can to make it possible for the student body to have the greatest high school experience. Being the leader of Middle School Mentoring, I am confident that the incoming freshmen will have no issue with communicating/voicing their opinions, issues, and requests to not only me, but the council as a whole. For those who do not know me, just know that if elected, I will not only make an effort to establish a relationship with every one of you, but also make sure that you all have the greatest year of your high school career. I have so many ideas such as new events that I will make sure to implement next year if elected. I want the outsiders who don’t attend Hackley to know why we have the best community ever.

What have you done for the Hackley Community?

I am the leader of Middle School Mentoring, an active participant in school events, was a Council member (2014-2015) and volunteered to help support many events by running concession stands, had many ideas (some used, others not), and also participated in different sports teams.

What are your goals if elected?

I plan to host more school events, strengthen the relationship between upper schoolers and middle/lower schoolers, ensure faculty members are updated/informed on Community Council’s decisions, create more funding for clubs, more grade-wide field trips, initiate the steps towards ending lunch duty, expand choices of snacks at the Tuck and have custom student apparel.
