Indoor Track and Field Athletes Qualify for State Championship

New Balance Track & Field Center at the Armory, New YorkAt the final Ivy League Meet this season, Hackley Winter Track had five athletes that qualified for the New York State Championship this past Thursday, February 11 at Ivy Meet #5, a state qualifier meet. Senior Anthony Roderick set a personal record in the 55m dash with a time of 6.59 seconds and placed first. Senior Gabriella Zak placed first in both the 55m hurdles and the triple jump, finishing in 8.85 seconds in the 55m hurdles and 34 feet flat in the triple jump. Senior Julia Stevenson placed first in the 3200m with a time of 10:53, averaging a pace of 5:26.5 per mile. Senior Sabina Thomas also qualified by placing second in the long jump with a jump length of 16 feet and two inches, a career personal best. She also placed third in the 55m dash with a time of 7.61 seconds and fourth in the triple jump with a jump length of 30 feet and ten and a half inches. Junior Amin Mustefa placed first in the triple jump, leaping 39 feet and seven and a half inches, second in the long jump, jumping 19 feet and eight and a half inches, and placed tenth in the 55m dash with a time of 7.23 seconds. Other athletes that did not qualify but had a great meet were: Senior Zachary Shalett, who threw shot put for 32 feet and two inches, a career personal best and 4th at Ivy Meet #5, and Junior Alexander Popov, who broke the 5:10 barrier in the mile, going a blistering 5:09 and placing 8th. For the athletes not going to States, The Ivy Preparatory League Championship Meet on Wednesday, February 17, is the next and last meet of the Winter Track season.
