Junior Alex Booth performed during Coffeehouse, singing “Lost in the Woods” by Robert and Kristen Lopez. During the performance, the crowd waved their phone flashlights, creating a concert atmosphere.

One of Hackley’s long-standing traditions, Coffeehouse, continued this fall, exciting many students. With the Hackley community being able to show off their talents to their friends and family, many consider Coffeehouse to be one of their favorite elements of Hackley.
“I love going to Coffeehouse and being able to see my friends perform. I think it is a great tradition and students are able to express themselves outside of the classroom,” senior Shiraz Awan said.
This year was no different with many acts including band performances, singing, and violin performances. The songs ranged from metal bands like Metallica to songs by pop stars like Taylor Swift and Rihanna. Each performance received tremendous applause from the excited crowd.
Throughout the performances, the crowd was heavily engaged with cheers which created a concert atmosphere. During certain performances, students turned on their flashlights and waved them in the air in support of the performer. Sophomore Nikhil Shah sang “Viva La Vida” by Coldplay and during the performance he encouraged the crowd to start singing along with him. Students also clapped to the beat of certain songs to radiate energy throughout Zetkov gym, which has been the venue since the old Performing Arts Center was demolished in preparation for the new arts center that is being constructed now.
Seniors Gabby Hogrefe and Garshanae Simpson hosted this Coffeehouse keeping the crowd engaged with a series of different jokes and also interactive activities. Some of these games included “finish the lyrics” where students needed to finish the rest of the song, and also a rap battle between two selected students and gave out prizes to all the winners.
“This was the first Coffeehouse I had ever gone to, and it definitely was something that I regret not going to years prior. It was a cool thing to watch and I am planning on going to the one in the winter,” senior Nate Peterson said.
Overall, Fall Coffeehouse was a success with students showing off their amazing abilities and leaving viewers with an unforgettable night. With such a great experience, much anticipation will be built up for the Winter Coffeehouse.
